Motörhead - Live To Win

Today would've been the 75th Birthday of Motorhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister. Sadly, he passed away only four days after his 70th birthday on December 28, 2015 due to heart failure and terminal cancer. As his epitaph says he was born to lose but lived to win.

Proudly wore my "Lemmy Forever" shirt today.

 Happy Festivus to everyone.

We've reached the end of another year and in All Japan's case, that means it's once again time for their yearly World's Strongest Tag Determination League or Real World Tag League. This year, eight teams will battle it out with the hope of achieving tag team immortality. We'll take a look at each team and their chances of winning it.

Thursday, November 12, 2020

Can't believe I forgot to post this last week. November 5th is a huge anniversary in science as it's the 65th Anniversary of the day Doc Brown invented time travel. Back in 1985, he remembered it vividly. He was standing on the edge his toilet hanging a clock, the porcelain was wet, he slipped, hit his head on the edge of the sink. When he came to he had a revelation, a vision, a picture in his head of what makes time travel possible: The Flux Capacitor. It took him almost 30 years and his entire family fortune to realize the vision of that day. My god, has it been that long. Also in 1985, he realized a lot has changed over the years. He remembered when Twin Pines Mall was all farmland as far as the eye could see. Old man Peabody owned all of it and he had this crazy idea about breeding pine trees.

Today is the 65th Anniversary of lightning striking the Hill Valley Clock Tower, the Enchantment Under the Sea dance, Marty McFly going back to the future, Marty burning the sports almanac, and Doc getting sent back to 1885 when lightning hit the DeLorean. Amazing how so many things can happen in one day in one city.

Mother Love

Happy 25th Anniversary to Queen's last album Made in Heaven. Released four years after Freddie Mercury's death, it features his final recordings he did in 1991 that were completed years later by the surviving members as well as songs from his solo album with the music redone to sound like Queen songs.
This song here is Mother Love, the final song Mercury worked on during May 1991. Sadly, he only completed 2/3rds of the song before his health further declined and he died in November 1991 before he was able to finish the song so Brian May sings the last verse.

Monday, November 2, 2020

Very sad to hear the passing of Sean Connery but the plus side, 90 is a long and great life. What can I say, he was a giant in film and one of those guys you can't believe would ever die. Women wanted him and men wanted to be him. Suave, a bad ass, and a man's man. Obviously, he'll always be remembered as James Bond and was a huge reason why the Bond series is one of the greatest franchises in movie history. Along with his seven outings, he was also great in The Untouchables (which he rightfully won an Oscar for), Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade, and The Rock to name some.

Friday, October 23, 2020

So October 21st is said to be Back To The Future day. I may have brought this up but why this date when it occurred in the second film? Why not October 26 where most of the present takes place or November 5 where Doc came up with the flux capacitor or November 12 when Marty went Back to the Future, lightning bolt hit the clock tower, Marty and Doc destroy the Sports Almanac, and Doc gets sent back to 1885? Technically, some have already pointed out there are several Back to the Future days.
Jan 1st: Doc is sent back to 1885
Sept 2nd: Marty goes back to 1885 to retrieve Doc
Sept 7th: The climax of Back to the Future Part III
Oct 21st: The beginning of Part II and Biff steals the almanac to create an alternate 1985
Oct 25th: The beginning of Back to the Future I
Oct 26th: Marty goes back to 1955, returns on this date, and most of the present is on this date
Oct 27th: Marty returns from 1885 and the end of the Part III takes place
Nov 5th: Marty travels to 1955 and Doc comes up with the flux capacitor
Nov 12th: Marty goes Back to the Future, Old Biff gives Young Biff the Sports Almanac, Marty and Doc burn the almanac, and Doc is sent to 1885

Most Notable One Hit Wonders In MMA

Most Notable One Hit Wonders In MMA
October 19, 2020
By Ryan Porzl

The term "One Hit Wonder" is a phrase perhaps mostly associated in the music world as it describes singers or bands with one hit single or album but were never able to recapture that success and eventually fell into obscurity. The phrase can also be used for Mixed Martial Arts. In the world of MMA, there are a variety of MMA champions. Some have won many titles and tournaments be it in one promotion or multiple promotions like Randy Couture, Dan Henderson, Fedor Emelianenko, Gegard Mousasi, Cris Cyborg, Anderson Silva, Ronda Rousey, and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. Some are strictly multiple time tournament winners like Royce Gracie, Don Frye, and Mirko Cro Cop. Finally, some have won just one major belt but either won it multiple times or successfully defended it many times like Jon Jones, Tito Ortiz, and Chuck Liddell. Then, there are the one hit wonders, fighters who won one tournament in a major organization and never won another again or won a major championship from a major organization but lost it in their first defense and never won another again. In this article, we'll take a look at some of the notable fighters who won a major tournament or title but were never able to hold onto a title for long or recapture that success despite in some cases getting multiple opportunities. Before we start, I should point out I will only include fighters who won major honors so independent promotions don't count as a fighter could've had multiple honors in a smaller promotion. As far as champions go, the fighters on this list are those who only won one title and failed to successfully defend it. However, if they won a tournament before or after, they won't be on the list. For example, Kevin Randleman only won one UFC Heavyweight Championship but he successfully defended it so he won't be on the list. Guys like Forrest Griffin and Matt Serra won titles and never successfully defended them but they won The Ultimate Fighter so they won't be on the list.

Very sad to hear about the death of Eddie Van Halen but not surprised as it's been well documented he's been battling cancer for years. They will never be another like him. Glad to say I saw Van Halen in 2007 at MSG and they were great. Wish I saw them more but better once than never. Even better was while it wasn't the original lineup as Eddie's son Wolfgang replaced Michael Anthony on bass, I did see the Van Halen brothers and David Lee Roth together.

Timeless Classic: A Look At Chrono Trigger 25 Years Later
September 21, 2020
By Ryan Porzl

25 years ago, video game fans were introduced to one of the greatest games of all time: Chrono Trigger, a role-playing game that tells the story of a group of time travelers who travel back and forth through time in order to right wrongs and destroy an intergalactic parasite who is supposed to bring about the apocalypse and destroy their world at the end of the 20th Century. In this article, we'll celebrate the 25th anniversary of one of the greatest games ever made by looking back at both the game and the behind the scenes stuff.

With fall approaching, it means one thing for Pro Wrestling NOAH and that is it's N-1 Victory time again which kicks off September 18th. The N-1 Victory (a replacement of the previous Global League) is NOAH's round robin tournament for heavyweights with the winner, barring it be champion Go Shiozaki, will get a title shot in the future. As usual, I will look at each participant and their chances of winning.

A Look at the 2020 All Japan Champion Carnival and the Participants
September 9, 2020
By Ryan Porzl

Well, this is certainly interesting. The Champion's Carnival is coming but the month of April came and went. These last few months have been interesting as the pandemic has delayed the Carnival until September and after originally planning a big tournament of 18, they'll have to settle for 10. Some names were planned but won't be in it but some names that weren't planned will be. Nevertheless, this is the 40th Carnival, it still features great wrestlers, and history will be made as this is the first time a Champion Carnival tournament or tour will be taking place in the fall after nearly 50 years of being a spring event. We'll take a look at the participants and their chances of winning.

Wrestlers Who Have Struggled To Find Their Footing in AEW
August 17, 2020
By Ryan Porzl

Whether you love them or hate them, AEW has been the toast of the American wrestling scene since they launched on New Years Day 2019. Not only have they quickly catapulted to the number two promotion in America but their weekly television show Dynamite has regularly beat NXT in the ratings. It's not just the fans as wrestlers from miles around have made the pilgrimage to AEW. Unfortunately, with so many wrestlers coming into the new promotion, many will overachieve while others, for whatever reason, fall through the cracks. In this article, we'll look at the wrestlers who originally came into AEW with promise but for some reason, it hasn't worked out and they've struggled to find their footing for a variety of reasons be it booking, bad luck, or the coronavirus.

A List of Wrestlers Who You Probably Didn't Know Appeared For WWE

A List of Wrestlers Who You Probably Didn't Know Appeared For WWE
July 26, 2020
By Ryan Porzl

The WWE has been around in some form or another for over 60 years dating all the way back to the 50s as Capital Wrestling Corporation or NWA Capital Wrestling. So it's not surprising that thousands of wrestlers have come through at one point be it full time or special appearances. While many are well known, some have slipped under the radar and people probably have no idea how certain legends and stars made appearances for WWE at some point. Here now is a list of famous wrestlers who may not have known appeared for WWE. I just want to point out, these wrestlers made appearances on actual WWE shows so co-promoted shows or developmental don't count.

Taking Off The Rose Colored Glasses Regarding Undertaker's Retirement

Taking Off The Rose Colored Glasses Regarding Undertaker's Retirement
July 17, 2020
By Ryan Porzl

In recent months, the WWE had been releasing parts of a new documentary called "The Undertaker: The Last Ride" which chronicled The Undertaker coming to terms his legendary career was coming to an end and was seeking that one great match he can close his career on. The documentary was praised and at the end of it, Taker hinted at retirement after competing in the Boneyard Match at Wrestlemania 36 Night 1 against AJ Styles. Following this, social media was flooded with the hashtag #ThankyouTaker as fans paid tribute to The Dead Man and his 30 year WWE run. However, I can't help but think because of Taker's legacy that fans are overlooking certain things namely the fact he should've called it a career long ago as his work was deteriorating and it was just painful to watch a talented legend just limp and stumble through match after match like some aging punch drunk fighter who shouldn't be fighting anymore but can't stop until they get that elusive win or that "one more big run" that will never come. Perhaps even more painful, people also ignore Taker's selfishness towards the end of his run and the damage he did for WWE whether it be his refusal to lose to up and comers in order to establish new stars for the future to flat out burying young stars with potential and not giving them the same opportunities he was given by legends before him to taking big spots at Wrestlemania when he should've taken a step back and let the next generation take center stage and overall, despite long being considered a locker room leader, he failed to lead by example. This article will do what many don't want to do and that is take off the rose colored glasses and reveal that while Taker has earned respect, it shouldn't be "Thank You Taker" but rather "Good Riddance".

A List of Wrestlers Who's Retirements Actually Stuck

A List of Wrestlers Who's Retirements Actually Stuck
July 9, 2020
By Ryan Porzl

Wrestling is known for having many trademarks and tropes over the decades. One of which is wrestlers not able to retire. Sadly, as legendary as some wrestlers are, some like Terry Funk and Atsushi Onita, have become punch lines in the business due to their constant broken retirements. Surprisingly, not every wrestler who's retired has broken it and some have actually stuck to their retirement. Here now is a list of wrestler's who retired and, believe it or not, stayed retired.

A View to a Kill Opening Title Sequence

Happy 35th Anniversary to the James Bond film A View To A Kill, Roger Moore's seventh and final Bond film. The film was also the 14th and final film for Lois Maxwell as Miss Moneypenny as she played the character since the first film Dr. No in 1962. Christopher Walken made history becoming the first Academy Award winner to play a Bond villain when he played Max Zorin. Duran Duran's title song is definitely one of the best in the series.

Happy 40th Anniversary to the KISS album Unmasked. The second of three experimental albums as it had a pop sound and the first to not feature Peter Criss who was fired during this time and future Ace Frehley and David Letterman drummer Anton Fig does the drums on this album.
This music video was Peter's last participation with the band until the Unplugged special in 1995 as he was already fired.

Obi-Wan & Anakin vs Count Dooku - Fight Scene | Star Wars Revenge of the...

Got to love the great Christopher Lee as Count Dooku. One of the best castings in Star Wars and Dooku was another awesome character. Also ironic since Lee was good friends with Peter Cushing who played Grand Moff Tarkin in the original and kind of in Rogue One via CGI.
With this and Saurmon, Christopher Lee has his own signature late in his career, playing fallen characters who go from major villain in the second film to getting killed off immediately in the third.

Star Wars Episode III: Obi-Wan vs. General Grievous

To me, General Grievous is one of the coolest and underrated characters in Star Wars history.
By the way, got to love Obi-Wan saying in the original Star Wars how a blaster is clumsy and random when it saved his life here. Also, not a bad shooter.

A Look Back At Donkey Kong Country 25 Years Later

A Look Back At Donkey Kong Country 25 Years Later
March 2, 2020
By Ryan Porzl

Since 1981, Donkey Kong has been one of the most beloved and popular franchises in video game history. 13 years after it's release, Nintendo released two Donkey Kong games. One was an expanded version of the classic 1981 arcade game with 100 levels and multiple worlds. The second was a side scrolling platformer developed by Rareware called Donkey Kong Country. Since it's release, Donkey Kong Country has been considered one of the greatest video games of all time and took the DK franchise to the next level with different gameplay, more levels, and more Kongs. With the 25th Anniversary being back on November 21, 2019, which means I'm late, we'll take a look at Donkey Kong Country.

Monday, February 17, 2020

Today is President's Day so I decided to give some facts on Presidents that you may not have known.
Grover Cleveland is the only president to serve two non consecutive terms as he was the 22nd (1885-1889) and 24th (1893-1897) President. As a result, we've only had 44 people as President, not 45 as you may think.
27th President William Howard Taft (1909-1913) is the only man to serve as both President and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court (1921-1930). He's also the last President to have had facial hair
The Adams' (John Adams and John Quincy Adams) and the Bushes (George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush) are the only father/son Presidents.
The Harrisons (William Henry Harrison and Benjamin Harrison) are the only grandfather/grandson Presidents
9th President William Henry Harrison (1841) had both the shortest Presidency at one month and was the first to die in office.
John Adams and Thomas Jefferson passed away the same exact date of July 4. 1826. Appropriately, the 50th Anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence
Only five times has someone been elected President despite not winning the popular vote. John Quincy Adams in 1824, Rutherford B. Hayes in 1876, Benjamin Harrison in 1888, George W. Bush in 2000, and Donald Trump in 2016.
Jimmy Carter is both the oldest president of all time at 95 and counting as well as having the longest retired president at 39 years and counting
The first inauguration actually took place on April 30, 1789. Then from 1793-1933, it was held on March 4th with the exceptions of 1821, 1849, 1877, and 1917 as March 4th fell on a Sunday. It wouldn't be until 1937 that inauguration day fell on January 20th.
Despite being the second President John Adams was the first to live in the White House which he moved into in 1800
At two and a half years as President, Gerald Ford has the shortest Presidency of a President who didn't die in office. He's also the only person to have been both President and Vice President but never elected to either position.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV Stage Eight

Now, one thing I wanted to bring up and feel I must is that this year will have a moment happen. I don't know the exact day but the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will travel to this year from time and face Krang while riding hoverboards near a futuristic city. This moment was documented in the level "Neon Night-Riders" on the video game "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time". This year also means were 80 years away from their next adventure "Starbase: Where No Turtle Has Gone Before" which will be in 2100.
