WWE Managers That Didn't Work Out

WWE Managers That Didn't Work Out
October 7, 2024
By Ryan Porzl

Professional Wrestling is known for their share of colorful and larger than life characters. However, not all these characters are wrestlers. Rather, some are managers. For decades, professional wrestling managers have played important parts in getting certain talent over whether it be cutting promos for them or getting involved in matches to get more heat from the crowd. The WWE has had their share of managers going back decades from "Wild" Red Berry in the 1960s to the Three Wise Men of the East ("Classy" Freddie Blassie, The Grand Wizard of Wrestling and "Captain" Lou Albano) of the 1970s to early 1980s to Bobby "The Brain" Heenan and "The Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart in the 1980s to early 1990s to Paul Heyman in present day. However, for all the legendary managers that have come through the WWE, there are those that for whatever reason or another, it didn't work out with some even being long forgotten. In this article, we'll look at managers that appeared for the WWF/WWE but for some reason, would fizzle out with some fading into obscurity.

WWF Wrestlers Who Had a Bad 1998

WWF Wrestlers Who Had a Bad 1998
July 13, 2023
By Ryan Porzl

I think it's universally known that 1998 was an amazing year for the WWF (now WWE). After struggling during The New Generation era of the early 90s and then getting their clock cleaned by WCW during the late 90s, they would finally turn things around and enjoy a resurgence with The Attitude Era in 1998. Things couldn't be better for the WWF and many of their wrestlers had good to phenomenal years. Both Steve Austin and The Rock, the two biggest names of the era, made it to the top in 1998. Meanwhile, Mick Foley had a rollercoaster year that saw him fulfill a dream, Kane had his first full year and won gold, Triple H continued to climb the ladder. and The Undertaker was still a force to be reckoned with. Unfortunately, not every wrestler had a great year. In many ways, 1998 was not just a bad year for some wrestlers but arguably one of the worst years of their careers. With 1998 being a quarter century old and since I feel this could be a fun article, I figure why not take a look at the wrestlers who, quite frankly, had a miserable 1998.

Note: I don't own the pictures. I got them on Google.

RIP Nelson Frazier Jr

Today would've been the 50th birthday of wrestler Nelson Frazier Jr. who competed under various names such as King Mabel, Viscera, and Big Daddy V in the WWF/WWE. In my opinion, he was one of the most underrated super heavyweights in wrestling history. Sadly, he passed away in 2014 just days after his 43rd birthday.

People and Legends You Probably Forgot Were In A Royal Rumble

People and Legends You Probably Forgot Were In A Royal Rumble
January 28, 2021
By Ryan Porzl

With the dawn of a new year, that usually means for the WWE that the Royal Rumble is coming up and thus begins the Road to Wrestlemania. Over the decades, many names have competed in the Royal Rumble and many all time greats are winners of it. Obviously, there are many names that clearly competed in a Rumble but there are some that may surprise you. With the Royal Rumble coming up, we'll take a look at some people and mostly legends who you may have either didn't know or forgot competed in a Royal Rumble.

A List of Wrestlers Who You Probably Didn't Know Appeared For WWE

A List of Wrestlers Who You Probably Didn't Know Appeared For WWE
July 26, 2020
By Ryan Porzl

The WWE has been around in some form or another for over 60 years dating all the way back to the 50s as Capital Wrestling Corporation or NWA Capital Wrestling. So it's not surprising that thousands of wrestlers have come through at one point be it full time or special appearances. While many are well known, some have slipped under the radar and people probably have no idea how certain legends and stars made appearances for WWE at some point. Here now is a list of famous wrestlers who may not have known appeared for WWE. I just want to point out, these wrestlers made appearances on actual WWE shows so co-promoted shows or developmental don't count.

Taking Off The Rose Colored Glasses Regarding Undertaker's Retirement

Taking Off The Rose Colored Glasses Regarding Undertaker's Retirement
July 17, 2020
By Ryan Porzl

In recent months, the WWE had been releasing parts of a new documentary called "The Undertaker: The Last Ride" which chronicled The Undertaker coming to terms his legendary career was coming to an end and was seeking that one great match he can close his career on. The documentary was praised and at the end of it, Taker hinted at retirement after competing in the Boneyard Match at Wrestlemania 36 Night 1 against AJ Styles. Following this, social media was flooded with the hashtag #ThankyouTaker as fans paid tribute to The Dead Man and his 30 year WWE run. However, I can't help but think because of Taker's legacy that fans are overlooking certain things namely the fact he should've called it a career long ago as his work was deteriorating and it was just painful to watch a talented legend just limp and stumble through match after match like some aging punch drunk fighter who shouldn't be fighting anymore but can't stop until they get that elusive win or that "one more big run" that will never come. Perhaps even more painful, people also ignore Taker's selfishness towards the end of his run and the damage he did for WWE whether it be his refusal to lose to up and comers in order to establish new stars for the future to flat out burying young stars with potential and not giving them the same opportunities he was given by legends before him to taking big spots at Wrestlemania when he should've taken a step back and let the next generation take center stage and overall, despite long being considered a locker room leader, he failed to lead by example. This article will do what many don't want to do and that is take off the rose colored glasses and reveal that while Taker has earned respect, it shouldn't be "Thank You Taker" but rather "Good Riddance".

Razor Ramon entrance theme

Happy Birthday to wrestling legend and another favorite of mine Scott "Razor Ramon" Hall who turns 60. This is one of those emotional milestones given Hall's personal demons in the past & it didn't look like he make it as far. He's one of those guys who's made it much longer than many thought and it's great to see especially with his generation of wrestlers.
Say Happy Birthday to The Bad Guy

The 2017 WWE Mae Young Classic: Where Are They Now?

The 2017 WWE Mae Young Classic: Where Are They Now?
July 27, 2018
By Ryan Porzl

A year ago, I wrote a "Where Are They Now?" on the participants of the WWE's 2016 Cruiserweight Classic. Since that time, the WWE has done several tournaments and one of them was the Mae Young Classic: a tournament for women from around the world much like how the Cruiserweight Classic was for cruiserweight wrestlers and named after a WWE Hall of Famer. Well, a year has gone by and with WWE about to do a second one, I figure it would be fun to look back at last year's tournament and see how little came of it by seeing what became of the participants with some having been under contract only to be released while a lot of great talent was not picked up.

I don't own the picture.

Mark Henry: An Overrated Legacy and Biggest Waste of Money in WWE History

Mark Henry: An Overrated Legacy and Biggest Waste of Money in WWE History
July 1, 2018
By Ryan Porzl

For 22 years, a fixture of WWF/WWE has been "The World's Strongest Man" Mark Henry. Originally a powerlifter who made it to the 1992 and 1996 Olympics, Henry signed with the WWF in 1996 and shockingly has had a two decade tenure where he seemed like a failed experiment for most of his run before enjoying praise in his twilight years and has since earned a backstage position as well as an induction into the WWE Hall of Fame. For some strange reason, it seems like people have giving him more praise in recent years despite the limited success among other things. With his recent induction into the WWE Hall of Fame, it seems like people have continued to paint a rosy picture of his career. This article, I will pull back the curtain and remind people that while Henry is a likable guy who tried, his legacy is overrated and that he's been the biggest waste in WWE history given how little they got out of him despite the long tenure.

In Defense of King Mabel and Why He's Not The Worst King of the Ring Winner

In Defense of King Mabel and Why He's Not The Worst King of the Ring Winner
October 5, 2017
By Ryan Porzl

For most of it's history, the King of the Ring tournament has been a tournament that either had legends win or was a stepping stone for future greatness with many legendary WWE careers being kicked off by winning the King of the Ring tournament. When people think of King of the Ring winners, they usually look at legends like Bret Hart, Owen Hart, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, Triple H, Kurt Angle, Edge, and Brock Lesnar as being among the best. However, not all King of the Ring winners are fondly remembered and one of them is King Mabel. Winning the tournament in 1995, Mabel not only won what many considered one of the worst King of the Ring tournaments on one of the worst pay-per-views of all time but many consider his win one of the worst in the tournament's history and is routinely considered one of, if not, the worst winner of all time. While it is true Mabel never came close the legendary status that many of the other winner did, Mabel also gets a bad rep and really isn't as horrible as many paint him out to be. Being a big King Mabel fan since the 90s, I feel it's time to defend him, debunk some of the talking points, and explain that while Mabel may not be the most obvious choice to win, it's really not as crazy as it seems but actually makes more sense then you think and while Mabel will never go down as one of the best King of the Ring winners, he's not the worst.

Wrestlers WWE should focus on in 2013

Wrestlers WWE should focus on in 2013
February 25, 2013
By Ryan Porzl

It's no secret the WWE has many great wrestlers on their roster. However, in recent years it's obvious the WWE has not used their roster to their full potential. Tons of great stars have either been buried, wasted, or given half-assed pushes. Here's a list of names that the WWE should focus on in 2013.

Dolph Ziggler- Perhaps the best reason to get behind the Show-off is the fact he's been compared by many with WWE Hall of Famer: “Mr. Perfect” Curt Hennig. That should be nuff' said but there's more. Simply put, Ziggler has the whole package. He's an excellent athlete, he can bounce around like a superball, can cut a great promo, and has charisma. Overall at his best, Ziggler comes across as a star.

AJ Lee- WWE resident “crazy chick” had a colorful 2012 but she was still wasted. Unlike most WWE diva's, Lee has had history in wrestling as she was a trained wrestler who worked the independent circuit before making her way to the WWE. Unlike most of the diva's, AJ shows shat she can fly and deliver a style the diva's don't show. Best of all, she also has a gimmick. Outside of AJ, Diva's are usually generic “Loving life and having fun” babyfaces or “Conniving bitch” heels. AJ, meanwhile, is the crazy chick. Her gimmick of a being crazy and unpredictable is something not regularly seen in the diva's division.

Ezekiel Jackson- Jackson's not the most technical wrestler but he's a very good power wrestler. In this day and age, Jackson is a good hand to have since most of WWE's “big men” or “monsters” are in their 40s and well past their prime.

Drew McIntyre- Hard to believe that only 3-4 years ago, McIntyre was looked at by both fans and the company as a future star. Fast forward to 2013 and the WWE has seemed to have given up on him which makes no sense. McIntyre is another wrestler with all the tools. He's around 6'5, has a good look, charisma, can cut a promo, and can wrestle. Like Ziggler, when McIntyre is at his best, he comes across as a star. The WWE would be well-served to get him out of the 3 Man Band stable and get him back on track.

Cody Rhodes- Rhodes is an interesting case as the WWE seems to know he has potential. The problem sometimes isn't that he's not pushed but rather is saddled with horrible gimmicks. From his “Dashing” gimmick where he gave beauty tips to wearing a mask & believing himself to be disfigured to now growing a mustache and everyone mocking him over it; it just seems Rhodes can't catch a break. It would be nice to see Rhodes get a real gimmick and some credible wins in 2013. The sky's the limit, he just needs something to sink his teeth into.

Antonio Cesaro- While Cesaro is the United States Champion as of writing; the WWE can still do more for him. Like most champions, Cesaro doesn't seem to have many feuds all the while he's losing to main event wrestlers. The former Claudio Castagnoli could definitely benefit from a strong rivalry with a great opponent and not having to get squashed by main eventers.

Kaitlyn- Yes Kaitlyn is Diva's Champion as of writing but the WWE can still do more for the Hybrid Diva. While Kaitlyn has made a lot of improvement, she's still green and needs more experienced wrestlers to work with. If WWE is serious about it's women's division, Kaitlyn should be put in there with women who could mask her weaknesses. Feuds with Natalya and AJ Lee would be great for her. The matches would be good for her reign and the stories would make sense.

Damien Sandow- The intellectual savior of the masses is another up and comer to get behind. Sandow is a great heel and while he's no where near ready for a main event run, he would be great as the Intercontinental or United States Champion.

Daniel Bryan- While Bryan has been pushed in his WWE career, it's obvious the WWE could do more with him. It would definitely be nice to see Bryan be treated like he was when he was the “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson: “The Best Wrestler In The World Today!”. The WWE needs to ditch this stupid “YES! YES! YES!” and “NO! NO! NO!” idiot who's mocked as a goat. The WWE can get so much more out of Bryan than some comedy character.

Natalya- Perhaps the most wasted talent in the WWE (which says a lot), Natalya has beauty and is easily one of the best wrestlers on the roster period. Yet inspite of all that, she's been wasted for years. She's constantly used as a jobber who is forced to put over women with a fraction of her talent or love for the business. As if that wasn't bad enough, she's also been given several embarrassing gimmicks including a farting gimmick and being apart of a freakish trio with the Great Khali and Hornswoggle. If WWE was smart, then they would push Natalya and put her in a position she deserves. Either as champion or a top contender where she can wrestle with diva's like Kaitlyn and AJ who have talent.

The Shield- So far in 2013, the Shield have been booked great and hopefully it stays that way. The Shield consists of three talented performers who can go far. Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose have shown in the independent circuit to be phenomenal while Reigns shows potential. Best of all, the three work well together. They come across as a unit that works as a well-oiled machine. Rollins and Ambrose are great talents that more than make up for whatever Reigns may lack. On the other hand, while Reigns is green, he comes across well as the “muscle” of the group and the guy who is the big guns of the stable.

CM Punk- Yes Punk has held the WWE Championship for over a year. But he still had the most botched reign in WWE History. The WWE should continue to back Punk but if he gets the title back then he needs to be the guy. He shouldn't be second banana to John Cena or be given a lame heel turn. While it'll probably never happen, it would be nice if the WWE did give Punk a real run.
