MMA Fights to Look Forward to in January 2019

By Ryan Porzl

Note that at the time I release these, the full card of certain events have not been released so there may be other fights I would recommend but aren't announced until after I complete this. Also, card subject to change.

Some Christmas songs are bizarre. With "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year", people have brought up the lyrics of "scary ghost stories" and I agree. Who tells "scary ghost stories" on Christmas? That's Halloween. Even then, I don't know how many toast marshmellows like their camping. You're more likely to bake cookies. Also "tales of the glories of Christmas' long long ago". Who talks about the glories of Christmas' long long ago and what glories are these? What are we, Klingons turning our achievements to songs for future generations to sing?
Then there's "the Twelve Days of Christmas". Why twelve? Christmas isn't Hanukkah plus 4 days.
"Winter Wonderland" talks about "conspiring" as we dream by a fire. "Conspiring"? Nice choice of words. Why would we name a snowman "Parson Brown"? Who's Parson Brown and why would he ask if we're married?

I Never Even Told You

Happy 25th Anniversary to Batman: Mask of the Phantasm.

Happy Festivus to everyone.
Been meaning to say this but sad to hear about the passing of Penny Marshall. I never got into her stuff as I wasn't much into Laverne and Shirley but she did direct one of my all time favorite movies in Big so I salute her for that.

Maverick Hunting a Quarter Century: The 25th Anniversary of Mega Man X

Maverick Hunting a Quarter Century: The 25th Anniversary of Mega Man X
December 15, 2018
By Ryan Porzl

Mega Man has been one of video game's most treasured franchises upon it's release. Fans and critics couldn't get enough of the blue bomber fighting off the evil Dr. Wily and his creations. However, Mega Man is more than just the original incarnation. Perhaps Capcom saw something there but as the decades gone by, new franchises were added to the Mega Man universe with some being sequels to the original while others being set in a different universe. In 1993, Capcom unleashed the first with the release of Mega Man X. Set 100 years after the original, it tells the story of a new, advanced, and powerful Mega Man named Mega Man X or X for short who fought alongside a group known as Maverick Hunters who sought to protect the world from evil robots or reploids who had gone maverick. Since then, Mega Man X has seen nine releases in it's history and despite the franchise being dormant for nearly half it's history, it's still a classic franchise of it own. Appropriate it's a sequel because like I did last year with Mega Man, I'll take a look at Mega Man X. This article contains spoilers so don't read if you don't want to be spoiled.

Bilbo & Smaug Complete Scene

On this day five years ago, the second Hobbit film The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug was released. Martin Freeman was a great younger Bilbo Baggins and Benedict Cumberbatch was great as Smaug.

I Walk Alone

With Bruce Kulick's 65th birthday yesterday, I figure I post the only song he sang for KISS.

The Price Is Wrong, Bitch - Happy Gilmore (8/9) Movie CLIP (1996) HD

Yesterday was Bob Barker's 95th birthday. I've decided to show one of his most bad ass moments. Moral of the story: don't fuck with Bob Barker or he'll drop you faster than a plinko chip or that cliff hanger falling to his death in the cliff hanger Price is Right game.

AJPW Toshiaki Kawada 4th Theme Song - "Holy War (V2)" (With Tron)

Happy 55th Birthday to wrestling legend "Dangerous K" Toshiaki Kawada.

WWF Theme - 'Ravishing' Rick Rude (2nd)

Yesterday would've been the 60th birthday of wrestling legend "Ravishing" Rick Rude. So what I like to have right now is for all you fat, out of shape, facebook sweathogs shut your mouths and open your ears as you listen to the theme of the sexiest man alive. Hit the music.

Fighting the Frizzies at Eleven (RESTORED - HIGH QUALITY)

Also, Happy Belated Anniversary to the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special which had it's 40th Anniversary back on November 17th. The special originally aired on CBS and saw the original cast reunite in nice story where they took Chewbacca back to his home planet for Life Day which I believe is their form of Christmas. I've never seen it but it's considered awful as George Lucas even disowned it and it's never been released on video outside of recorded bootlegs. Still, it did have the debut of legendary bounty hunter Boba Fett and I'm sure it's now a masterpiece compared to the trainwreck of The Last Jedi. Yeah, I said I enjoyed it last year but I was in denial I was watching a big budgeted version of Highlander II: The Quickening.
Of course, this special is also famous for this CBS bumper.

Guns N' Roses - Patience (Official Music Video)

Happy belated anniversary to the Guns n' Roses album GnR Lies which had it's 30th Anniversary on November 29th.

Hellraiser

Happy 70th Birthday to Ozzy Osbourne.

Owner Of A Lonely Heart

Off by three weeks but November 7th was the 35th Anniversary of YES' 90215 album which features Owner of a Lonely Heart which was their only single to reach #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Mainstream Rock Charts. I bring this up cause I have been curious, is what YES says true?
"Owner of a Lonely Heart is much better than Owner of a Broken Heart".

Man With The Golden Gun

Happy 45th Anniversary to the Alice Cooper album Muscle of Love, the last to feature the original Alice Cooper band.
Awesome version of the Man With The Golden Gun. Too bad Eon Productions didn't use this version for the James Bond movie of the same name instead of the Lulu version.

Even though it's Peter Criss' song, Eric Carr does a great version.

Kiss - Let's Put The X In Sex

Happy 30th Anniversary to the KISS album Smashes, Thrashes, & Hits. A compilation album featuring two new songs and then drummer Eric Carr singing Beth.
Sad Paul Stanley now hates this song. Not only catchy but great lyrics.
"Baby, Let's Put the X in Sex
Love's likes a muscle that you make me want to flex
Baby, Let's Put the X in Sex
Keep it undercover baby let me be your private eye"
That's poetry.

Tuesday, November 13, 2018

Forgot to post it yesterday but Happy 25th Anniversary to the UFC.

GoldenEye - Janus

Happy 23rd Anniversary to the James Bond film Goldeneye (also the name of Bond author Ian Fleming's Jamaica home). The first featuring Pierce Brosnan as 007. What better way to celebrate then with this clip. Before he was Ned Stark or Boromir, Sean Bean was awesome as Alec Trevelyan.

The Ecstacy of Gold---Ennio Morricone

Happy 90th Birthday to legendary composer Ennio Morricone. Morricone is best known for composing for movies such as A Fistful of Dollars, For A Few Dollars More, The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly, Once Upon A Time In The West, Once Upon A Time In America, The Untouchables, Bugsy, & The Hateful Eight with the latter earning him the Academy Award for Best Original Score which, at 87, made him one of the oldest people to win a competitive oscar. He's also won three grammys, three golden globes, six BAFTAs, ten David di Donatellos, eleven Nastro d'Argentos, two European Film Awards, The Golden Lion Honorary Award, & The Polar Music Prize.

Sunday, November 4, 2018

Yesterday (November 3rd) would've been the 85th Birthday of the great composer John Barry who passed away on January 30, 2011 at the age of 77. Barry is best known for his work in the James Bond franchise helping the arrange the James Bond theme for the first Bond film 1962's Dr. No and then composing 11 of the first 15 Bond films up to 1987's The Living Daylights.
Outside of Bond, Barry also composed big movies like Midnight Cowboy, The Lion In Winter, the posthumous Bruce Lee film Game of Death, The Cotton Club, Out of Africa, Dances With Wolves, & Chaplin.
Barry won five Academy Awards out of 7 nominations, one Golden Globe out of 11 nominations, and one Grammy out of 3 nominations..

Southpark Thriller

A true Halloween classic. God rest MJ but Chef does a great version.
"I'm gonna make love
Even when I'm dead
My body might get cold
But it's always hot in my bed
Make Love
Don't you be afraid
Just because my heart ain't beating
It don't mean you won't get laid."

Game Show Music - Match Game Hollywood Squares Hour Theme Song (1983-1984)

Happy 35th Anniversary to the Match Game/Hollywood Square Hour. The show had Match Game in the first half hosted by the returning Gene Rayburn and Hollywood Squares in the second half hosted by Jon "Bowzer from Sha Na Na" Bauman with each host participating in the game they didn't host (Rayburn one of the celebrity squares on Hollywood Squares while Bauman was one of the stars the contestants had to match in Match Game). Lasting only a year, the show was the first not to feature Peter Marshall as host of Hollywood Squares and the final time Gene Rayburn hosted Match Game after hosting every version since 1962. The cool theme song would be used later as a tune on the Price Is Right.

Forgot about this but Happy 30th Anniversary to Sega Genesis or the Sega Mega Drive as it was known outside America which debuted in Japan today 30 years ago. Classic system and as the original commercials said, Genesis does what Nintendon't (at least until the Super Nintendo).

Castlevania: Rondo of Blood OST

Happy 25th Anniversary to Castlevania: Rondo of Blood. A classic in the series.

Happy 65th Birthday to one of the greatest songwriters of all time Desmond Child. A genius that most don't know but you know the songs he's done. He written or co-written I Was Made For Lovin' You, Heaven's on Fire, Who Want's To Be Lonely, UH! All Night, Reason To Live, & Hide Your Heart for KISS. Poison, Bed of Nails, & House of Fire for Alice Cooper. Dude (Look's Like a Lady), Angel, & Crazy for Aerosmith. You Give Love A Bad Name, Livin' On A Prayer, Born to Be My Baby, & Bad Medicine for Bon Jovi. I Hate Myself For Loving You for Joan Jett. How Can We Be Lovers? for Michael Bolton. Lovin' You's a Dirty Job for Ratt. The Cup of Life & Livin' La Vida Loca for Ricky Martin. His band Desmond Child & Rouge also did the great song Last of an Ancient Breed for The Warriors movie.

2011-2014 : CM Punk 2nd WWE Theme Song - Cult of Personality [ᵀᴱᴼ + ᴴᴰ]

Happy Birthday to wrestling legend CM Punk who turns 40.

Off by four days but Happy Belated Birthday to the great actor Christopher Lloyd who turned 80. Obviously, most know him as Reverend Jim Ignatowski on Taxi but I'll mostly know him as Doc Emmett Brown in the Back to the Future trilogy, Commander Kruge in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, & Judge Doom in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. He was also good as Kroenig in Sin City: A Dame to Kill for.

Razor Ramon entrance theme

Happy Birthday to wrestling legend and another favorite of mine Scott "Razor Ramon" Hall who turns 60. This is one of those emotional milestones given Hall's personal demons in the past & it didn't look like he make it as far. He's one of those guys who's made it much longer than many thought and it's great to see especially with his generation of wrestlers.
Say Happy Birthday to The Bad Guy

Bloodlines: The 25th Anniversary of Castlevania: Rondo of Blood
October 17, 2018
By Ryan Porzl

Castlevania: Rondo of Blood is a unique chapter in Castlevania's history. Originally released in 1993, it was only originally released in Japan and by the time it was released internationally in 1995, it became different enough to the point where it was almost unrecognizable and it's own game. Then in 1997, it opened the door for Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Strangely enough, the game whose sequel has been lauded as the greatest Castlevania game of all time was still out of reach for most of the world and would remain that way till the 21st Century when it finally started seeing re-releases. It was, in a way, like Konami's version of Mother (Earthbound Beginnings) or Street Fighter 1 in that people played the masterpiece sequel while the game that came before was almost a forgotten footnote. With the 25th Anniversary approaching on October 29th, I figure it be best to have a look at a true gem in the Castlevania series and one that in a way is one of the most important in the series' history. This article contain spoilers so don't read if you don't want to be spoiled.

Wrestlers who Triple H & NXT Botched

Wrestlers who Triple H & NXT Botched
October 15, 2018
By Ryan Porzl

Though it's WWE's developmental territory, NXT has become one of wrestling's more popular promotions in recent years. It's almost become a promotion that can do no wrong with their TakeOver specials usually getting critical acclaim, their supposed ability to make stars, and taking credit for a supposed women's revolution/evolution. You even have fans wanting wrestlers to go there despite being already experienced and good enough to be on the main roster. NXT boss Triple H & NXT fans have also acted like it's a third brand that compliments RAW & Smackdown. Meanwhile, Triple H has went from being a pariah who played backstage politics, was an egomaniac, held wrestlers back, & married into the McMahon family to be the Messiah who can do no wrong, has a Midas touch, and will usher in a new golden age once he takes over from Vince. Unfortunately, Triple H and NXT aren't as infallible as one would believe and The Game has made his share of mistakes with certain talent. Over the years, NXT has been able to secure a lot of great talent but for every Finn Balor or Charlotte Flair, they're have been those that the promotion botched and should make fans go "WTF?". Here are a list of wrestlers Triple H & NXT had but either didn't make the best of or downright botched.

James Bond From Russia With Love Train Fight

Before he was the shark hunter Quint in Jaws, Robert Shaw was bad ass as SPECTRE agent Donald "Red" Grant in From Russia With Love. He also began the classic Bond trope of big strong blonde haired henchmen. One day, they should equip watches with hidden garrote wires as a defense mechanism. Get the jump on intruders.

First Appearance of Desmond Llewelyn as Q - From Russia With Love HD

The beginning of a legend. Desmond Llewelyn's first appearance as Q in James Bond. He would play the role for 17 films spanning 36 years.

John Barry - "007" (From Russia With Love, 1963)

Great song from the great John Barry that debuted in From Russia With Love and was to serve as a secondary theme. Sadly, "007" didn't stand the test of time as it was only used for a few films and hasn't been used in it's entirety since 1979's Moonraker.

FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE (MATT MONRO) - JAMES BOND 007 .

Happy 55th Anniversary to From Russia With Love. The second James Bond movie.

Super Mario Bros. 2 Overworld Theme

Happy 30th Anniversary to Super Mario Bros. 2 or Super Mario USA in Japan (long story). Another all time favorite.

Every story and every legend has a beginning and even a franchise like Castlevania is no exception. For nearly two decades, fans enjoyed the neverending adventure between the Belmont family & Count Dracula with various members of the Belmont family taking up the vampire killer whip to slay Dracula whenever he was resurrected over the centuries. However, many must have asked how and when did this rivalry start? Did Dracula have a connection with a Belmont? Where did Dracula come from? How did the Belmonts get the vampire killer? Where did such a powerful whip come from? Why did the Belmonts decide to become vampire hunters? How MANY centuries has this been going on? In 2003, Konami would finally answer all those questions with the release of Castlevania: Lament of Innocence and in celebration of it's 15th anniversary, we'll take a look at how it all began. Keep in mind, there will be spoilers so don't read on if you don't want to be spoiled.

Fresh Blood

Enough's Enough

DaDa

Happy 35th Anniversary to the Alice Cooper album DaDa. Good album especially when you know that this was the third of his "blackout" albums which meant he was completely fucked out of his mind on alcohol and drugs specifically alcohol which meant he has no recollection of working on this album. This was thankfully his last until his sober reemergence in 1986. This would be the last album with Cooper's former guitarist and right hand man Dick Wagner though Wagner co-wrote "Might As Well Be On Mars" for Hey Stoopid.

Sonic Boom: The 25th Anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog CD
September 20, 2018
By Ryan Porzl

Since 1991, Sonic the Hedgehog has been Sega's mascot and one of the greatest franchises in video game history. For over 27 years, the Sonic franchise has produced one classic after another with the first years being arguably being the golden age. One of the early games was Sonic the Hedgehog CD which was released on the infamous Sega CD in 1993. Now considered one of, if not, the best Sonic game in history, Sonic CD was also a highlight on the Sega CD, an add-on that had it's share of critics. Unfortunately, many probably missed the game at first due to the somewhat bad reputation of the Sega CD and people not wanting to pay the same amount for an add-on they would for the system. To celebrate the upcoming 25th anniversary, we'll take a look at Sonic the Hedgehog CD.

Norifumi "Kid" Yamamoto Highlight

Very sad to hear about the death of MMA legend Kid Yamamoto who passed away last night of cancer. Yamamoto was a favorite of mine and he was only 41. I did hope he could beat it but it wasn't to be. Yamamoto was a legend of MMA who along with Urijah Faber was credited for being one of the first superstars in the lower classes and one of the best in the mid-2000s as he had it all in great wrestling, athleticism, explosiveness, & knockout power you don't see in fighters his size. I also respect him as he was one of those fighters who didn't care about size as he was a natural 135 pound bantamweight but fought as high as 155 pound lightweight. He won the K-1 HERO'S Middleweight (165.3 pounds) Grand Prix and his four second knockout over Kazuyuki Miyata is one of the greatest knockouts in history. While he did have some cans here and there, he still scored good wins over the likes of future Shooto Champion Hideki Kadowaki, Jeff Curran, Royler Gracie, Caol Uno, Genki Sudo, & Rani Yahya as well against future champions like Jadamba Narantungalag & Bibiano Fernandes early in their career and dominated future Strikeforce champion Josh Thomson before an accidentally groin shot from Thomson led the fight to a no contest. 13 years before the Conor McGregor/Floyd "Money" Mayweather boxing fight, Yamamoto's kickboxing fight with K-1 legend Masato drew over 34 million viewers on TV and help sell at least 35,000 fans to the Osaka Dome. It's sad his career didn't end on a good note as he was never the same after an ACL tear in 2008 and his DREAM & UFC runs failed all the while he never did that win in UFC. On the plus side, his legacy is secured even though he didn't reach his full potential. I can keep going on but I've went long enough. Godspeed to a legend taken way too soon.

Liddell/Ortiz III is a Bad Idea

Liddell/Ortiz III is a Bad Idea
September 13, 2018
By Ryan Porzl

In late 2009, the UFC announced Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz would coach the 11th season of the Ultimate Fighter and then face off for a third time in the main event of UFC 115 in June 2010. The fight never happened as Ortiz pulled out due to neck surgery and Liddell faced Rich Franklin who he lost to. With Liddell forced into retirement later in the year and Ortiz retiring in 2012, then went to Bellator, and then retired again in 2017, it looked like the door was shut on the third fight. Fast forward to 2018 and after being released from the UFC, Liddell not only announced his return to fighting but that a third Ortiz fight was being planned. After months of rumors, it was officially announced in August that Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions would hold the fight and that it was set for November 24th. Obviously, just about everyone except the participants see this as a horrible idea but I figure why not jump in and give reasons why this shouldn't be happening.

Gary Moore - We Want Moore! - Murder In The Skies Live

With September 11th, it makes me think of the Gary Moore song "Murder In The Skies". I know the song is about the Russians shooting down a Korean plane (it's 35th Anniversary was back on September 1st) but despite that and the fact it was written in 1983, it can almost be a September 11th song with the chorus being
"Murder In The Skies, Came Without a Warning
Murder In The Skies, Black September Morning".
I know Gary was Irish but it would've been interesting to do a September 11th version.

Sad to hear about Burt Reynolds' death. Haven't really seen any of his movies as my fond memories are all the times Siskel & Ebert trashed his assemble line car chase films of the late 70s and early 80s. Seriously, Ebert's old reviews are still up and awesome. Also, he did Cop & a Half which lead to classic Siskel & Ebert moments as Ebert was one of the few to love it which drove Siskel absolutely nuts. Like I said a year ago, I don't know when Siskel & Ebert were funnier: trashing bad Burt Reynolds movies or bad Eddie Murphy movies.

A while back, I wrote about fighters that appeared in UFC that many may have forgotten about or didn't know about it. Now, I'm doing one with PRIDE. Once the powerhouse of MMA, PRIDE held over sixty events in ten years with many great fighters. Many legendary fighters are well known but there's still those many may not have known about especially if they didn't fight very long. This list will look back at the well known and not as well known fighters that fought in PRIDE that the fans may have forgotten or didn't know about.

The 2017 WWE Mae Young Classic: Where Are They Now?

The 2017 WWE Mae Young Classic: Where Are They Now?
July 27, 2018
By Ryan Porzl

A year ago, I wrote a "Where Are They Now?" on the participants of the WWE's 2016 Cruiserweight Classic. Since that time, the WWE has done several tournaments and one of them was the Mae Young Classic: a tournament for women from around the world much like how the Cruiserweight Classic was for cruiserweight wrestlers and named after a WWE Hall of Famer. Well, a year has gone by and with WWE about to do a second one, I figure it would be fun to look back at last year's tournament and see how little came of it by seeing what became of the participants with some having been under contract only to be released while a lot of great talent was not picked up.

I don't own the picture.

July 14, 2018

When last I left off, I looked at well known fighters who came close to coming to the UFC but never did. Now, I figured a good follow up would be to look at fighters that did make it but people may have forgotten. With this being the 25th Anniversary of the UFC, it's safe to say that UFC has held hundreds of events and thousands of fighters have come through. Many fighters had long careers while others came and went. Some of the fighters who didn't stay long are known but others aren't or have been forgotten. Here is a list of fighters that competed in the UFC that you may have forgotten about.

Mark Henry: An Overrated Legacy and Biggest Waste of Money in WWE History

Mark Henry: An Overrated Legacy and Biggest Waste of Money in WWE History
July 1, 2018
By Ryan Porzl

For 22 years, a fixture of WWF/WWE has been "The World's Strongest Man" Mark Henry. Originally a powerlifter who made it to the 1992 and 1996 Olympics, Henry signed with the WWF in 1996 and shockingly has had a two decade tenure where he seemed like a failed experiment for most of his run before enjoying praise in his twilight years and has since earned a backstage position as well as an induction into the WWE Hall of Fame. For some strange reason, it seems like people have giving him more praise in recent years despite the limited success among other things. With his recent induction into the WWE Hall of Fame, it seems like people have continued to paint a rosy picture of his career. This article, I will pull back the curtain and remind people that while Henry is a likable guy who tried, his legacy is overrated and that he's been the biggest waste in WWE history given how little they got out of him despite the long tenure.

With the UFC about to celebrate it's 25th Anniversary, it's obvious they've been around for a long time which means thousands of fighters have fought in it's octagon. However, many fighters never fought there and in some cases, some of those fighters were sometimes a win or successful contract negotiation away from going to the UFC but it didn't happen. Here now is a look at some well known and/or legendary fighters who were on the verge of going to the UFC before it went up in smoke.

Banjo-Kazooie Boxart (North America)
Who would've thought an adventure game starring a honey bear with his red bird friend in his backpack as they venture to many worlds to stop an evil witch while collecting music notes and jigsaw puzzle pieces would become one of the greatest video games of all time? To Rare's credit, they did when they launched Banjo-Kazooie on June 29, 1998 on the Nintendo 64. To celebrate the upcoming 20th anniversary to one of video game's great masterpieces, we'll take a look at the original game as well as the history leading up to it, and the aftermath as the game's success would spawn a series.

On this day 35 years ago, KISS began the Brazilian leg of their Creatures of the Night Tour/10th Anniversary Tour where they played three shows which were highly successful despite the band being at their lowest point in America with the first show being in front of the biggest crowd of their history playing to 137,000 people at Maracana Stadium. These Brazilian shows would be the last with the make up until the reunion tour in 1996.

35th Anniversary: A Look Back At The Battle of the Bonds

May 16, 2018
By Ryan Porzl

For more than 55 years, the James Bond series has been around and been one of the biggest movie series in history. Through it all, the movies were largely done by Eon Productions and distributed by United Artists & MGM with very few exceptions. One of the those exceptions was in 1967 when a spoof of Casino Royale came out during Eon's You Only Live Twice. The second was far more interesting when in 1983 Eon's Octopussy featuring arguably the most popular actor to portray 007 went head to head against Never Say Never Again, a movie that was a remake of the previous Eon film Thunderball while starring the actor who returned to the role after a dozen years that he helped make famous. Even more so, it was a battle over two decades in the making that originally began between a producer against Bond creator Ian Fleming that continued with Eon. How did this happen and how did we get there? To celebrate the 35th Anniversary of what became known as "The Battle of the Bonds", we'll take a look at the beginning of Bond to the controversy over Thunderball to the events that led to the 1983 battle to the aftermath.

MMA Stars/Legends Who Never Fought In The UFC

MMA Stars/Legends Who Never Fought In The UFC
April 20, 2018
By Ryan Porzl

The UFC has been around since 1993 where it's been consistently the number one North American MMA promotion and since 2007, the number one in the world. Since UFC became the top promotion, many fans and the media have constantly said for someone to be "for real" or mean something, they had to be in the UFC. However, that isn't and never should be the case. Many fighters have had great careers with a lot of them becoming legends without ever stepping foot inside the octagon. Here now are MMA stars and/or legends who never fought in the UFC. For the record, I won't include Fedor Emelianenko because everybody already knows he hasn't and he's usually the first person people think of.

MMA Fighters Who Transitioned to Pro Wrestling

MMA Fighters Who Transitioned to Pro Wrestling
April 10, 2018
By Ryan Porzl

Back in January, former UFC & Strikeforce Women's Bantamweight Champion "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey made her WWE debut at the Royal Rumble PPV. Despite Rousey being a huge pro wrestling fan and the fact it's been rumored for some time, many MMA fans can't see why anyone would go from MMA to the "fake" world of Professional Wrestling. The interesting thing is that many big MMA names and legends have begun in MMA and did wrestling at some point. With Rousey having just debuted at Wrestlemania, we'll take a look at MMA Fighters who later dabbled in pro wrestling. Keep in mind that this list will only feature fighters who started in MMA and then did pro wrestling whether it be short term or long term. That means that wrestlers who then did MMA like Brock Lesnar, Ken Shamrock, Kazuyuki Fujita, Masakatsu Funaki, Kiyoshi Tamura, Minoru Suzuki, Dan Severn, & Kazushi Sakuraba don't count.

Tag Teams Where The Breakout Wrestler Wasn't Who Everybody Thought

Tag Teams Where The Breakout Wrestler Wasn't Who Everybody Thought
April 2, 2018
By Ryan Porzl

Wrestling is like everything else in life in that not everything goes as you expect. After the rise of Bret Hart & Shawn Michaels in the early 90s, people have usually speculated on which member of a team would be the breakout star and which would fade to obscurity. While many cases, promotions and fans have been right on which would go farther, they're not right all the time as there have been teams where one was expected to go the farthest but the partner would end up doing better. We'll take a look at teams where the breakout star wasn't who people thought it would be.

Sad milestone today as it marks the 25th anniversary of the death of Brandon Lee, the son of Bruce Lee. Lee passed away at 28 after accidentally getting shot with a faulty prop gun that had a dummy cartridge lodged in it while filming The Crow. The Crow was a great movie and Lee's death almost reminds me in a way of Heath Ledger's 15 years later as Lee passed away right as he was doing a movie that seemed like it would advance his career. Obviously, The Dark Knight was much bigger but you get the point.

Awesome theme from James Bond composer John Barry.

YOU LOSE CARL MILLER

Forget that "Like Water" crap. In celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the posthumous Bruce Lee film The Game of Death, I figured I show the quote Bruce Lee should really be remembered for. Ok, so technically he doesn't say it as it's a dub but it's still awesome.

Tag Teams Where Both Members Did Well

Tag Teams Where Both Members Did Well
March 7, 2018
By Ryan Porzl

When it comes to tag teams in wrestling, there seems to be two kinds of teams. One are teams that are life long tag team wrestlers who will always be known for tag teams like The Road Warriors while other teams are those where members eventually break up and move on. In the case of the latter, the best examples are The Hart Foundation & The Rockers. With Bret Hart & Shawn Michaels not only going on to superstardom, their partners Jim Neidhart & Marty Jannetty didn't do much after that. As a result, when teams break up, people always wonder which will be the Bret Hart/Shawn Michaels of the team and which will be the Jim Neidhart/Marty Jannetty and even wrestling promotions have had wrestlers even bring it up on promos. However, not all teams are like that. There have been teams out there where there was someone who achieved big success but the partner also did very well themselves. With that, we'll take a look at the teams where both members ended up doing well. Please note, I will only bring up teams where people looked at a team and clearly saw someone as a future superstar so teams like the Blade Runners (Sting & The Ultimate Warrior) won't be on here since nobody viewed one as having the most potential when they teamed up and they didn't last long.

A Look Back At DREAM & It's Contributions To MMA 10 Years Later

A Look Back At DREAM & It's Contributions To MMA 10 Years Later
February 8, 2018
By Ryan Porzl

With the end of PRIDE Fighting Championships and it's purchase to then UFC parent company Zuffa in April 2007, it left a huge void as PRIDE was MMA's number one promotion throughout the decade. It also hurt the Japanese Mixed Martial Arts market as they not only lost their top promotion but they lost it via an ugly scandal as they were involved with a yakuza family. With PRIDE now gone, several promotions formed in it's wake in the hopes of filling the void. One promotion was DREAM, a promotion formed by a combination of K-1 owners Fighting Entertainment Group (who even ended K-1 Hero's upon DREAM's formation) and Real Entertainment who were former executives from PRIDE former parent company Dream Stage Entertainment. Formed on February 13, 2008, DREAM was supposed to be one of the next big MMA promotions that hoped to succeed PRIDE. Unfortunately, it never happened and it eventually shut down by 2012 when FEG went bankrupt, ending the promotion after only four years. While DREAM never became a big success, it still made it's mark on the MMA world and now ten years after it began, we can see the contributions it made and why is will go down as an underrated & memorable MMA organization.
