Looking at Puroresu for August 2013

New Japan will spend the month of August by holding the traditional G1 Climax tournament. The tournament has been around since 1991 and is one of the most prestigious tournaments in Japanese Wrestling. The tour runs from August 1st to August 11th and features a who's who in New Japan. Names in the tournament include past winners like Kazuchika Okada, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Hirooki Goto, Yuji Nagata, and Togi Makabe. Other names include Katsuyori Shibata, Tatsuya Naito, Toru Yano, Yujiro Takahashi, Prince Devitt, Shinsuke Nakamura, Lance Archer, Davey Boy Smith Jr., and many more.

(Thoughts: Not much to say here. The G1 is one of the biggest events in Puroresu and is always something to look forward to.)

All Japan will hold their Summer Impact Tour which will run from August 11th to August 25th. Like June, Suwama will get a chance to challenge for the Unified World Tag Team Titles before defending his Triple Crown against one of the champions. This time Suwama will team with Takao Omori to challenge Jun Akiyama and Go Shiozaki on August 17th. Suwama will finally face Go Shiozaki in a long awaited Triple Crown title match on August 25th at Korakuen Hall. The event will also feature Yoshinobu Kanemaru defending the Jr. Heavyweight Title against DDT's Hikaru Sato.

(Thoughts: Should be some great matches. The Triple Crown is one that I and many have been looking forward to it since Shiozaki arrived in All Japan back in January. I do wonder if All Japan should have build this up longer and have it at an All Japan anniversary type show in October. But then again, with the loss of half their roster, All Japan probably wants to create some buzz.)

Pro Wrestling NOAH will be holding their 13th anniversary by holding a show on August 4th at Tokyo Differ Ariake. The event will feature KENTA defending the GHC Heavyweight Championship against Mohammad Yone and Taiji Ishimori will defend the GHC Jr. Heavyweight Championship against Zack Sabre Jr. On August 24th, TMDK will defend the GHC Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Championship against Big Japan's Yoshihito Sasaki and Shinya Ishikawa. On the same card, Naomichi Marufuji will celebrate his 15th anniversary by teaming with New Japan's Shinsuke Nakamura to take on KENTA and Takeshi Sugiura

(Thoughts: The matches should be good but the fact outsiders are getting a tag title shot and Yone getting a heavyweight title shot shows how shallow the roster is.)

ZERO1 will also conclude their Fire Festival on August 4th.

Also want to congratulate Shingo Takagi for winning the Dragon Gate Open the Dream Gate Title from CIMA on July 21st. I don't follow Dragon Gate but I've been a fan of Shingo's since his run in Ring of Honor back in 2006-2007.
