A Look at WWE Night of Champions 2013

Tag Team Turmoil/Pre-Show: The Prime Time Players vs. The Real Americans vs. The Usos vs. Tons of Funk vs. 3MB- I like the idea of a tag team turmoil except it's hard to promote a tag title match or get a storyline when the matches are the same night. This can be great but it depends on who last long and who get eliminated quickly. The Real Americans and the Usos are the best teams so the longer they last the better the match can be. The PTP and 3MB are ok but won't make the match excellent or horrible. Tons of Funk are abysmal and if the WWE are smart (which I'm sure they're not), they won't last long. Since WWE has been high on The PTP since Darren Young came out of the closet, I see WWE going with PTP.

WWE Divas Championship/Fatal Four Way: AJ Lee (c) vs. Natalya vs. Naomi vs. Brie Bella- This match will be rough. First of all, only half the divas in this match are good (AJ and Natalya). Not only are half the participants good but the ones that are bad (Naomi and Brie) are really bad. The only way this match will be good if this is a typical WWE multi-man match (two wrestling while the others lay around the ring). If AJ and Natalya do all the work and Naomi & Brie stay out of the way then it could be good but I doubt that's how this match will go. This match will likely see the Total Divas getting involved as well as the divas that AJ aligned with like Layla, Aksana, and Alicia Fox. Since the WWE are high on the Bellas and the WWE likely want a Total Divas member winning the title, I see Brie winning the title here.

WWE Tag Team Championship: The Shield (c) vs. The Prime Time Players- Since I see The PTP winning the turmoil, I see them getting the tag title shot. This match will probably be alright but not great. Titus O'Neil has potential but Darren Young is alright (It has nothing to do with his sexuality) and they've never had a great match. Rollins and Reigns are good-great talents but the Shield have become ice cold after having nothing to do in the summer and now serve as the sniveling henchmen for the McMahons. Seeing as how the WWE is high on the PTP and likely want some free publicity from Young's coming out, the PTP will win the titles here.

WWE United States Championship: Dean Ambrose (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler- This fight is bittersweet. On one hand, this has the potential to be a great match and easily the best of the night. Both guys are incredible talents who can work with just about anyone on the roster. But at the same time, I can't help but feel that Ziggler is wasted in this role. It's annoying that guys like Randy Orton and Alberto Del Rio are World Champions despite not getting the fraction of the reaction that Ziggler gets all the while Ziggler is a more exciting wrestler to watch. I can see Ambrose winning here since I can see the WWE wanting Ziggler to chase the title before he possibly wins it.

Handicap Elimination Tag Match: CM Punk vs. Curtis Axel & Paul Heyman- This one has potential but I doubt it will deliver. The WWE screwed this up when Punk beat Axel on RAW a few weeks ago. If Axel beat Punk clean then this could be good but as it stands, I don't buy Axel as Punk's equal. It's clear that despite the WWE being high on Axel, they don't see him as a top star so why should I? This match is clearly left overs. Axel is cool but it's obvious he's keeping Lesnar's seat warm because Lesnar can't be bothered to work more than 3 matches a year. Heyman being in this match adds nothing. This will be Punk vs. Axel with Heyman only tagging in when Punk is hurt. I see Axel and Heyman winning after Axel gets eliminated and eventually interferes to give Heyman the win.

WWE World Heavyweight Championship: Alberto Del Rio (c) vs. Rob Van Dam- This will not be pretty. Del Rio is a very bland and boring performer who just doesn't have anything special other than the fact he's hispanic and WWE are determined to make him the next hispanic superstar come hell or high water. Van Dam, on the other hand, isn't much better. If this match was done a few years ago then maybe Van Dam could get something out of it. But it's 2013 and Van Dam has not been motivated in years. On top of that, Van Dam is 42 years old which is pretty old for a flyer. Van Dam is also a very stale act as the guy hasn't done anything fresh since he debuted the Van Terminator back in 2000. I just don't see how this can be entertaining as one guy is bland and the other is unmotivated and stale. Given the WWE will not give up on Del Rio, Van Dam has a limited schedule, and the possibility of Ricardo Rodriguez betraying Van Dam and going back to Del Rio, it's hard to get into this match since it has an obvious result. Del Rio will retain.

WWE Championship: Randy Orton (c) vs. Daniel Bryan- I don't know where to begin with this match. I guess I can start by saying this is probably the worst storyline since the McMahon's feuded with DX in '06. The WWE has fucked this up every way possible. Bryan should never have lost the title at Summerslam, the McMahon's are god awful and stale, Bryan has looked incredibly weak this whole storyline, and I didn't care about Orton to begin with. I have absolutely zero interest in this match. The WWE hasn't given me any reason to believe Bryan has a chance to win the title so why should I care about a match when the result is more predictable than a John Cena match? This match will likely be a mess with wrestlers constantly interfering and Triple H possibly changing and adding stipulations to benefit Orton. Orton will retain since the WWE won't end his title reign now. Bryan's best chance to win the title is if the WWE books him to win the Royal Rumble and then the title at Wrestlemania.
